Lead Web Developer - salary dependent on experience

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated web developer to head up our web development team, and to help us deliver high quality and functional web projects on time, on budget and on brief. The successful applicant will be able to display the following:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of building websites in .Net, PHP and Classic ASP
  • Management of development teams on both backend and frontend builds
  • High proficiency in XML, XSLT, HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript (and Javascript frameworks)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of using a variety of Open Source tools such as Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, OSCommerce, Magento, Umbraco etc.
  • Extensive experience of setting up and configuring Content Management Solutions, E-commerce solutions and data integration
  • MS SQL and MySQL database setup, configuration and management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in client-facing situations
  • Delivery of projects within time and budget constraints whilst maintaining a strong eye for detail
  • A drive to satisfy clients and colleagues alike with great service and results

The role will require you to:

  • Implement “best practice” development policies and procedures, and ensure our existing development team understand and adhere to these
  • Manage and mentor 2 junior developers
  • Manage the development and testing of large consumer-facing websites, ecommerce websites, community and corporate websites
  • Produce accurate technical specification documents for projects and pitches
  • Liaise with the Project Management team to ensure that clients needs are interpreted correctly and delivered to
  • Work with the design department to ensure that front end functionality adheres to best practice usability standards
  • Manage the training of clients and colleagues on web applications
  • Work with the Marketing and Sales department to produce timing estimates and documentation for pitches and new products

An understanding of the following will also be important:

  • Web development software including: Visual Web Developer, Visual Studio Express, Dreamweaver, Fireworks etc.
  • Strong knowledge of cross browser compatibility issues
  • Strong knowledge of coding and testing for high web accessibility standards
  • API integration experience
  • Strong knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation best practice
  • Web analytics tracking and reporting tools

Other requirements:

  • Must be highly skilled in time management to facilitate involvement in multiple projects
  • Must have the ability to work independently and manage communications across the organisation
