The Brief
The East and North Hertfordshire PCTs had made the decision to merge into one and wanted to launch a new website to bring together the information from the two old websites. They felt both websites were similar and whilst they had beneficial information, both sites were cluttered. Hertfordshire PCT wanted a new clean website that laid out the information clearly with a visually appealing design.
We won this project in a competitive bid against other web design companies. We also had to deliver the site within 8 weeks to hit their deadline.
What We Did
We created some new designs in order to create the correct layout of information. We then wrapped the design around Joomla, an open source content management system to allow the staff at NHS Hertfordshire to update the content easily.
We also integrated custom functionality including a Google map showing locations of all the NHS facilities within the Hertfordshire area, a custom glossary showing definitions for NHS terms and acronyms when the user hovers their mouse over the top, a login area for GPs and an animated homepage device allowing NHS Hertfordshire to promote current campaigns.
We have also improved the accessibility on the site by allowing site restricted users to listen to site pages and foreign users to translate the entire site into their chosen language.
The Result
The client was very happy with the end result and especially as the site was delivered by the deadline. They were really impressed with the open source CMS we built the website with and have now decided to use Joomla for their Intranet. The website was launched in early April and by mid May has already attracted 10,168 visits.
