Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK and Beating Bowel Cancer is a charity who works tirelessly to raise awareness. Whether they are supporting patients or raising their concerns with MPs, the team is always working towards improving bowel cancer outcomes.

We redeveloped their site for them in April 2011 and have since watched the site grow from strength to strength. From analysing the statistics of the website over Jan 2012 – Feb 2012 compared with Jan 2011 – Feb 2011 we have seen that:

  • Visits to the site have increased by 138%
  • Forum visitors have increased by 4398%
  • Visits to the fundraising page are up by 2103%
  • Search engine referrals have gone up by 129%

As well as a great improvement in statistics, last year also saw Beating Bowel Cancer rank 15th in the Third Sector Charity Web Check. Third Sector carried out a Charity Web Check in 2011 which allows charity digital communication teams to evaluate their digital strategy against other charities. Beating Bowel Cancer ranked 15th out of 300 charities, the same position as both RSPCA and Oxfam. With them having an annual income that is less than many other charities that are making their mark online, it was great to see them ranking so highly against some widely known charities.

We also worked closely with the charity in the creation of a Bowel Cancer map in 2011 which received an impressive 5,600 visits on the day the map was launched. We are working on the map on an ongoing basis so we can improve it and make it a useful tool to provide up-to-date information on bowel cancer data. This map has been presented at the Houses of Parliaments in 2012 as Beating Bowel Cancer campaigns to get MPs to raise awareness of bowel cancer in their local constituency.
